Ms McIntyre, who has played a number of sports in the Wimmera since her junior days, said she was looking forward to helping grow female participation in sport.
“I have a few projects I’m looking after and the main one I’m really going to start working with is the new funding that has come through for women’s participation in sport,” she said.
“There will be some projects running in this area around that. One of those is the active girls brunch, which ran last year too.”
Ms McIntyre said providing regional youth with a chance to play sport was vital.
“I still play sport and I’ve always been passionate about sport,” she said.
“I am very lucky to have the life I’ve had with sport so I’m happy to be able to give back to the community. I’ve done that a lot in a volunteer sense but now I’m able to do that as a job.
“It doesn’t really feel like I’m working because I get to come and do what I love and work with all the children in the Wimmera. I want to help keep that retention in sport, because I think it’s really important when growing up in a regional community.”
Ms McIntyre said the quality of the athletes around the Wimmera was exciting, and she hoped to see it grow as she took on the role.
“To look at the population we have it’s quite phenomenal to see how many people we have competition and national levels,” she said. “Sport has always been strong here. There is so much available to people now.”
