Six ladies enjoyed a quick, satisfying activity at Horsham Evening Branch’s meeting, making flowers from assorted buttons of all shapes, colours and sizes. Evening closed with a cuppa and pumpkin scones.

Two big events on the area’s CWA calendar will take place tomorrow and on Friday, with Central Wimmera and West Wimmera holding their conferences.
State president Lynnette Harris will attend both events as part of her busy donference round schedule for February.
As promised in an earlier column I will touch on one of the various themes for CWA this year, starting with a little on the country of study, Peru. The best known places in Peru are Machu Picchu (one of the most stunning archaeological sites in the world), Colca Canyon (twice as deep as the Grand Canyon and home of the Condor), Nazca (the Nacala lines are a series of geoglypts with designs ranging from wild life to geometric), Cuzco (major city of the Inca Empire and undisputed archaeological capital of the Americas).

Horsham held their first meeting for the year with members welcoming visitor Veronica Barker, who they hope will attend again. Marj Werner was wished birthday greetings.
Competition theme: Wild flowers, winners Bev. Shalders and Jenni Mitchell. Single Bloom: Jenni Mitchell, 2nd Merlyne Phelan, same result in Multi Bloom.
International club officer: Lauris Hunter gave a talk on country of study, Peru.
Drung South representative Janice Merrett, together with Shirley Blackwood and Joy Wheaton from Twilighters branch in Nhill, were part of the home industries (cookery) judges from across Victoria who attended a recent annual judges update at CWA Headquarters.
Members were invited to take an item of preserves with them, Janice tackled rhubarb champagne.
There was a large and varied range of preserves on display, from raspberry cordial to Thai green curry paste, as well as a good variety of jams, relishes and jellies.
The items were placed in groups of five, and ladies were asked to critique and judge as they would do at show time.
The ladies enjoyed the experience, coming home with new ideas.
