The side finished eighth last year in a disappointing season. They missed out on finals by two games and O’Connor said she was hoping for improvement this year.
“Our mid-court girls really started to find their own towards the end of last season,” O’Connor said.
“I expect them to step it up again this season after a year of playing together. I see Millie McRae and Grace Braithwaite as being real on court leaders this season.”
Kalkee will be boosted by the inclusion of Jenna Bywaters this year.
“She is an experienced A grade netballer with a good netball head,” O’Connor said of Bywaters.
O’Connor said the key for the side was to be confident in their abilities.
“Our biggest focus will be on increasing our confidence in each other on the court,” she said.
“We have a few young girls in our team who play really well when their confidence is up so we will be working hard to get on court success to keep those girls up and about.
“Our aim is to finish in the top six so we can play finals and give ourselves the chance of making it to the grand final.”
Kalkee starts its season at home to Laharum on April 7.
Q and A with Jaymi O’Connor
What has you most excited about this season?
The great group of girls we have coming into the club across all grades. I’m excited to hopefully give the girls the opportunity to have some finals success after a tough season last year.
Any losses that you will have to work hard to cover?
We haven’t lost any players from last season which is a fantastic result.
Who do you think will be the team to beat?
Natimuk United, Harrow-Balmoral and Laharum are always very strong opposition. We play Laharum first round so that will be a good opportunity to see how we go against one of the best teams.
