FILIPINO and Karen dancing have brought the 2018 Nhill Fiesta Fridays series to a close.
The third and final fiesta on Friday night at Nhill Lake featured Horsham’s Filipino dance group, and members of Nhill’s Karen community performing the bamboo dance.
The Nhill Town Committee has run the fiesta series each February since 2014.
Nhill Town Committee secretary Helen Ross said the third event opened with a performance from the Nhill College band.
“A talented group of students from the junior and senior school showed us that music plays a large part in their school studies,” she said.
Two popular rock and roll and blues bands – Blurred Lines and Oozin Blues – rounded out the night.”
Ross said this year’s series was sensational, and the most successful yet.
Each night typically attracts hundreds of people to the lake foreshore.
“Attendances were up on last year, people stayed later and we had visitors from as far away as Townsville joining with the locals to really enjoy summer in Nhill,” Ross said.
“We had fabulous weather, great music and entertainment, wonderful food and the company of friends, neighbors and visitors.
“The children’s activities were enormously successful.
“There were three nights of fun for all with library book bag painting, pencil holder and pot plant holder activities.
“Night three featured a dream catcher workshop, which drew the children in, along with a few mums.
“To complete the evening, girls and boys hand-painted trains and trucks proudly made by the Horsham Men’s Shed members.”
As in past years, the Nhill Lake Committee will run an event on the final Friday in February.
The committee will host duck races this week, with hundreds of dollars in prize money up for grabs.
The duck auction will start at 7pm, with races from 7.30pm.
Entry is free.
