Key to the club’s success will be a core of senior leaders who will help guide the younger players in the club.
“We have some strong leaders in the group in Jase Kerr, Cam Bruce, Shane Oakley, Lockie Wilson and even Dusty Cross who I will be looking for to drive the standards and help the young guys,” Hose said.
“There has been a number of young guys graduating from junior footy who will step up to senior footy this season.”
Hose will be a fresh perspective to the club, after taking the role from last season’s head coach Heath Francis.
Hose said he has found the club very easy to fit in to so far this pre-season.
“The club has been fantastic and really welcoming to my family and I. They have good things happening off the field and the playing group is right behind me,” he said.
“I wanted that opportunity to get back into senior coaching. Also, understanding the club has had some good success with juniors and there was a bit to work with there.”
He has plenty of footballing experience after coaching at Beulah before the club merged with Hopetoun.
“Being new to the club my goal is to bring in some fresh ideas to try and improve on the club’s position from last year,” Hose said.
“I’m looking forward to being involved at a new club and working with a young enthusiastic group who want to improve.”
The Bombers will be another young side looking to develop this season, with about a dozen under-17s players who tasted senior football last year to continue growing this year.
Hose will lead out his troops for the first time on April 7 against Natimuk United away from home.
Q and A with Gareth Hose
What has you most excited about this year?
Being involved at a new club and working with a young enthusiastic group who want to improve. Hopefully we can maintain these youngsters for future years.
Who do you think will be the teams to beat?
I think teams like Harrow-Balmoral and Jeparit-Rainbow will be strong contenders again this season. Kalkee has recruited well also. I think it will be really exciting this year and it should even out quite a bit. I’d expect it to be a little bit more even on the field.
Who do you expect to improve this year?
It’s difficult for me to see how we are going to go because the entire playing list is new to me, but hopefully we can improve from within. I will be looking to all players to improve, we have a really young list with at least 12 under-17 players from last season who tasted senior football.
