She said she did not know what to expect heading into the 2018 and for that reason simply wanted to ensure her team was competitive.
“We’re really entering into an unknown,” she said.
“That is perhaps the most exciting thing about this season – it’s a new league and a whole new challenge.”
The side has lost several key players from last season with Annie Stewart, Courtney Wareham and Caitlin Hickey all no longer at the club.
Shannon is confident a group of new players will step up to cover those losses.
“There are some really exciting players in that new group and also some players returning after a year off due to injury or mum duties,” she said.
“I expect several new faces in the lineup come round one and am excited to see how the new group plays as a team.”
Despite the new competition Shannon did not expect the style of the team to change too much for the coming season after finishing fourth in the Horsham District competition in 2017.
“We’ll just continue to put the most versatile team that we can on the court and look to play disciplined netball,” she said.
Q and A with Kimmy Shannon
Where do you expect improvement to come from this season?
I expect improvement to come from our work in the preseason and hopefully a higher level of fitness come round one.
How has pre-season been going?
We’ve had good numbers at training and plenty of new players at the club.
Has anyone been leading the way during pre-season?
It’s probably a bit too early to say who will step up for us this season. Once we start playing more we’ll get a better idea of where everyone is at.
