Co-coaches Jane Richardson and Sarah Spicer are well aware of their side’s shortcomings and will look to that area of the court in order to improve.
“We expect that our younger players will be more settled in the line up this year and we feel the hunger to try for a premiership will be what will keep our team improving,” Richardson said.
Emma Koschitzke will aim to back up her Hatcher medal winning season through the side’s midcourt and Richardson said she had been in good form during pre-season.
“Penny Fisher has also been leading the group in terms of fitness but Brit Power and Jess Kelly are also looking very fit and will be looking forward to big seasons,” she said.
“Jenna Schultz and Briodi McKenzie started to show some really good form towards the end of last year and we'll be hoping they keep improving throughout the season.”
A knee injury saw Spicer miss a large portion of 2017 and she was excited to back training ahead of a likely return mid-season.
“You don’t miss it until you start training again,” she said. “Now that I’ve started training again I’m really looking forward to getting back into it.”
Q & A with Jane Richardson
Q: What are your goals for the 2018 season?
We hope that we can once again be in the top three teams for the season. We will look for more consistency in our games as we thought that was something we struggled with last year.
Q: Where do expect improvement to come?
We expect that our younger players will be more settled in the line up this year and we feel the hunger to try for a premiership will be what will keep our team improving.
Q: Any losses that you will have to work hard to cover?
We will lose both Petah Winsall and Ellie Baxter who have moved for work commitments. We think we have the depth within our club to try and cover these losses.
