HORSHAM Community and Police Consultative Committee hopes to have automated defibrillators installed across the city in the next two months.
The group last year identified six locations where defibrillators could be installed for public use.
The group nominated Roberts Place, the May Park toilet block, Westpac Bank precinct, Woolworths toilet block, Sawyer Park, and Weir Park as priority locations.
The community safety group worked with Business Horsham to apply for grants through an Ambulance Victoria program.
Group chairman David Eltringham said applications had been put forward, and the group hoped to have units installed by April.
“What we've been trying to do is twofold – get the defibrillators that are already out there registered so the ambulance service knows where they are, and get defibrillators in public places,” he said.
“Recently a few members spoke to Horsham Rural City Council staff, and they agreed it was a good idea that after seven years, they would pick up the maintenance of these around town.”
The devices typically come with a seven-year warranty.
Mr Eltringham said he had spoken to Community Axis staff about installing a defibrillator outside their new building at the top end of Firebrace Street in Horsham.
