Hosted by the Nhill Aviation Heritage Centre, Wheels for the Wirraway will bring together people who use wheels everyday either for pleasure or necessity. Visitors are invited to join in, bringing any form of wheels from roller skates to trucks, ride-on mowers, classic cars and everything in between.
There will be a large display of vintage cycles, penny farthings, motorcycles, classic cars, trucks, military vehicles, tandem bikes, antique toys and sculptures. There will be competitions for decorated bikes, skateboards and remote-controlled vehicles. Joy flights, a car boot sale and market, children’s activities and food stalls will add to the scene.
Wheels for the Wirraway will be the last major fundraiser in a campaign to purchase the Wirraway aircraft restored by Borg Sorensen of Tyabb. With only $50,000 of the $300,000 purchase price yet to be raised, it’s hoped the Wirraway will be on permanent display in Nhill by midyear.
General admission to Wheels for the Wirraway costs $20 ($10 for school-aged children, pre-schoolers free). A family ticket is $50. Entry to all displays, the Bellman Hangar and the Ahrens Hangar is free. Food and drinks can be purchased on site. For more details, visit website www.nhillaviationheritagecentre.com.au
