Lent is an invitation to all Christians to “pause a little, leave behind the unrest and the commotion” that can fill our lives with negative feelings which never get us anywhere.

Each of us knows the difficulties we have to face.
Lent is an ideal time to unmask these and to let our hearts beat with the calming love and mercy of Christ our Saviour.
Life is so busy for us with family, work, school, and many commitments.
Lent is a favourable time in our lives, leading up to Easter, where we are renewed with Christ’s ever new, joyful, peace and hope-filled in our hearts.
Lent is a time to pay attention to anything that could dampen or corrode our believing hearts.
There are voices raised in the church and in our wider community that speak of the pain and uncertainty in people’s lives.
Into these concerns, we need to sow the seeds of trust in God, living shoots of love and life God wants all of us to have.
We do not ignore the pain of those who have been disenchanted or disaffected by any person, organisation, church, relationship or school.
We pray with and for them as we all seek, in Lent, to return without fear to the healing and reconciling tenderness of God.
Lent is the time for us to allow our hearts to beat once more in tune with the vibrant heart of Christ. Pause from the fast-paced life that can scatter, divide and can ultimately destroy time with family, friends, and with God.
Pause, see where we can refrain from hurtful comments, disapproving looks, the urge to control and know everything, from the noise of the world that causes us to forget the importance of rich and meaningful encounters with others.
May our pausing in Lent lead us to see the faces of those around us alive with hope and love.
I pray that we journey to Easter filled with the love, peace, healing and forgiveness Christ our Saviour won for us.
