Dimboola man Barry Ryan stopped by the office to share a photograph of a gigantic zucchini that he found in his veggie patch.
Mr Ryan has quite a green thumb – growing a variety of vegetables from zucchini through to cauliflower.
He said he was not one to buy his vegetables from the supermarket and every vegetable to touch his plate was straight from his garden.
The zucchini photograph apparently did not want to be picked and hid from Mr Ryan’s view for several months.
The avid gardener had planted the zucchini during the Christmas period.
“It is normal for zucchini’s to grow fast so, I started picking them a few weeks later,” he said.
“But, I don’t know how this one kept so well hidden.
“It wasn’t until it dropped in to my sight that I realised I had missed one.”
From Christmas time the zucchini had grown over a foot long.
He said he had been growing his own vegetables for 40 years, but he had never come across a peculiar vegetable like his enormous zucchini.
Mr Ryan said he was going to cut the zucchini up and start making a pickle, but his friend stop him just in time to tell the Wimmera Mail-Times.
“I was just about to cut it up when my friend stopped me,” he said.
“He told me I had to take a photograph with it and send it in to the newspaper.”
Now that Mr Ryan has notified the newspaper, he said he was going to get the zucchini off his friend and start making his delicious pickle.
