Murtoa’s Ivy Jones did both when she celebrated her 100th birthday on Thursday.
Mrs Jones only stopped driving last year, and is still able to do many things herself.
She celebrated her birthday with her family.
“They took me out for a party and tea at the hotel in town,” she said.
“There were lots of relations I hadn’t seen for ages.”
Mrs Jones said she was not sure what had led her to having such a long and healthy life. However she said she liked to keep her mind sharp.
“I do a lot of puzzles and things like that, and I read a lot,” she said.
“I like keeping busy.
Mrs Jones was born near Murra Warra, and met her late husband Alf in Murtoa.
The couple settled in Murtoa in the 1940s and Mrs Jones has lived in the same house since.
Mr Jones died about 25 years ago.
The couple’s son Kevin said his parents were caring people who always thought of others before themselves.
He said his mum was remarkable.
“She was all dressed and ready when I went to pick her up for her party,” he said.
“She has a walking stick, but she walked into the party by herself.
“At about 9.30pm I said it might be time to leave, but she stayed until 10.30pm.”
Mrs Jones’ sister Alice is also a centenarian.
The family thanked everyone who sent cards and well wishes.
