Robertson has been given the opportunity of a lifetime to play in the biggest American school volleyball event, the 45th Annual AAU Girls’ Junior National Volleyball Championships in Florida, where over 36,000 players from 2400 teams across 172 courts with over 600 US college scouts watching, participate.
Expressions of interest were sought from girls across Australia and Robertson put her name forward. She was informed last week she had made the team, alongside some of the best talent from Victoria and Queensland.
An idea of Victorian coach Sue Rice and Queensland counterpart Amanda Fielding, both with extensive coaching in Australia and in the US college system, the opportunity to participate in the championships gives players on the US college pathway first hand experience in that system.
Robertson has been on the radar of Victorian coaches for the past two years, reinforced by her selection in the Victorian under-17 Blue team last year as a bottom-aged player, only to miss out on playing at the National Junior Volleyball Championships on the Gold Coast thanks to a finger injury.
Since overcoming that injury, Robertson has played in three tournaments.
Robertson has the dream of one day maybe getting into the US college volleyball system and we could very well see another talented Wimmera athlete make it on the international stage.
