Jockey Jarrod Lorensini had Divine Sanction well placed for much of the race, with the jockey content with holding the horse in fourth position at both the 800 and 400 metre marks.
After the 400 metre mark, Lorensini made his move, pushing Divine Sanction into the lead from the outside. Divine Sanction won by almost half a length on the inside of Unrealistic and Bertwhistle.
It was a successful day for the Weir stable, after the trainer finished in first and second in race four, the McDougall Family Maiden Plate. Keyser Soze won that race with Focus On Glory finishing in second.
It was a tougher day for Horsham-based trainer Paul Preusker.
Preusker’s only placing for the day came in race two – the Mackie Family Maiden Plate – with River Lee finishing in third.
There were more Wimmera connections at Edenhope, with Stawell trainers Terry and Karina O’Sullivan and Dane Smith having limited success.
The O’Sullivan’s only placing came in race five with Primostrat finishing in second position behind Tzarevna.
Smith had more of a successful day, earning two second placings.
Argyle Valley started the day off well for Smith with a second-placed finish in race one. At the back end of the day in race six, Smith also earned a second-placed finish with Good Offa.
