Balmoral K-12 Community College teacher Emily Hicks is preparing to shave off her hair on Friday at 1pm at the school.
Miss Hicks has participated in the World’s Greatest Shave in 2008 and 2012.
“I participate in this fundraiser because it is a fun way to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation, to help those who have been diagnosed with blood cancer and for their families,” she said.
Miss Hicks has a target of $1000.
Balmoral College’s crazy hair day and donations from the community has helped her raise $599.
She asked people to help her reach her target by making a donation on http://my.leukaemiafoundation.org.au/emilyhicks.
Horsham’s St Brigid’s College year 11 student Darcy Hogan will shave his head for the second time to raise money for the Leukamia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave.
Darcy decided back in 2013 when he was 11 years old and a student at Horsham West Primary School to participate in the fundraiser.
After watching his grandmother go through treatment for leukaemia in 2012, Darcy felt compelled to help make a difference to other people who were experiencing cancer and its invasive treatments.
His grandmother Jan Neville was fortunate to beat her battle with cancer and that was when he was motivated to participate in the World’s Greatest Shave.
The first time he participated in the fundraising event, Darcy managed to raise $2386. The second time around he has set a target of $2000.
With his shave to take place on March 23 at 12.30pm at St Brigid’s College, Darcy has raised about $1,830.
“Everyone at St Brigid’s has been really supportive. I’m lucky to go to school with students and staff that really care about making a difference for our future,” he said.
“This event is so simple but is so effective and could change someone’s life forever, so please donate or ‘be brave and shave’ too.”
