The state championships were hosted in Bendigo where volunteer firefighters challenged teams from in and around the state.
Warracknabeal fire brigade captain Cameron Whelan said firefighters performed consistently throughout the competition.
Teams competed in a variety events that involved basic rural firefighting equipment such as tanks, pumps, hoses and ladders.
The Warracknabeal fire brigade placed fourth in the B-class section.
“We’re a small brigade and there are barriers in regards to training but to come together over the three days and perform the way we did was great,” he said.
The Warracknabeal team came away with first and second place medals in individual events. However, Mr Whelan said the fire brigade’s victories were a team effort – from both team members and its supporters.
“As a team we enjoy the ladder eight event. It’s a challenge and quite technical, but it’s an event that we as team always strive to do our best,” he said.
The Horsham fire brigade team was invited to lead the march in next year’s opening ceremony after placing fifth in the discipline event. Horsham fire brigade’s David Hornsby said leading the march was a real honour.
The team also placed second in the four person pumper event. Overall, he said the team was pleased with their results.
