On Saturday the club will be holding junior try-outs, with president Rob Moir hoping the club can add an under-13s and under-17s team to its junior program.
“Last year we only had under-15s and the senior team, and we believe we can add two new junior teams this year,” he said.
“The club has been growing steadily and we are trying to meet that demand. On the weekend we will see what happens and how many people come down.
“We aren’t 100% sure we can field three junior teams, but based on a survey of members last year and some other research we have done, we feel like it could be quite possible to add two teams.”
Try-outs will begin from 1.30pm at the Horsham Racecourse, with Mr Moir urging anyone interested in the sport to attend.
“We are looking at players for the junior sides and they can come along on Saturday and have a kick,” Mr Moir said.
“Past players, players from other towns and those interested in soccer are encouraged to come down.”
The Horsham Falcons senior side will also be playing a practice match on Saturday against Naracoorte, starting at 4pm at the Horsham Racecourse.
On Sunday, Football Federation Victoria will be heading to Horsham to assist the club in holding clinics for younger children.
“We will be having a come-and-try day for children 11 and under,” Mr Moir said.
Mr Moir said the FFV has been assisting the club throughout the summer and hoped the weekend would be a catalyst for the club’s growth.
“The FFV is coming up from Melbourne and will be running the event on Sunday,” he said.
“We also have the FFV coaching clinic staff coming and they will be putting some of the parents through a coaching course.
“FFV has spent a fair bit of time with us during the off-season and they are giving us a lot of regional support.
“We are the only soccer club in the Wimmera at this point and we have players that come from surrounding shires.
“For children between six and 11 that are interested in soccer, Sunday is the day to come down.”
Mr Moir also said the club is keen to hear from anyone interested in getting involved with coaching for this coming season.
