Drung South captain Ben Brooksby said this would be the first time all season his side had fielded its best team against Haven.

Haven disposed of Kalkee in their semi-final on Saturday to progress to the preliminary final of the competition. 

Drung South was handed a second chance after being defeated by St Michael’s in the other semi-final last week. 

Drung South finished the home and away season in second spot.

Brooksby said his side must be prepared for anything when it took to the Haven courts.

“It’s finals so anything can happen. I couldn’t say that we are confident but we’ll take it as it comes and give it a red hot crack,” he said. 

“In finals it is anyone’s game, everything changes.” 

Brooksby said he and his team-mates were aware of the quality players Haven had to offer. “We’ve definitely got a good team in but, then again, so do they,” he said. 

“This is the first time we’ve ever had a full side up against Haven, so that makes us slightly more comfortable. But saying that, we don’t know how we play against them with a full side either.” 

Brooksby last week’s match with illness, but will play this week.

Drung South and Haven last met in round 15, where Haven won the contest 8 games and 92 sets to 6 games and 90 sets. 

Haven captain Sophie De Wit said Saturday’s match would be an interesting encounter. “We’re really excited, I think it will be a really good battle like it was last week against Kalkee,” she said. 

“We will need to play our best to win.” 

De Wit recalled the two squads’ previous meeting in round 15. 

“They had two of their four men out in that match. It is definitely an advantage for them this week to have those two men in,” she said. 

“But we are prepared for battle.

“We’re looking forward to playing Drung South.” 

De Wit said playing on the team’s home court was not an advantage in terms of the surface, but would be in terms of support base. 

“It’s still hard court so there is no advantage there,” she said. 

“But we will have some of the other Haven teams supporting us. At the end of the day it is who can compete on the day.” 

De Wit believes the match will be decided by the team that can win the most singles match-ups. 

She said her team would attempt to keep as hydrated as possible throughout the day, after experiencing a hot day in the semi-finals.
