After a gorgeous long weekend in the garden, I woke up last Tuesday morning to find that my week was one day short. With 24 hours less to get things done, paperwork was simply flying across my desk.

Katianna needed details filled out for a meningococcal vaccination, while it was imperative that Tiani pay the deposit for her Year 6 Camp immediately and Yasinta brought home a very crumpled note with important details about this week’s athletics sports.
Appointments had to be made for Tiani’s eyes to be checked, Yasinta’s teeth to be checked and Katianna’s road safety knowledge to be checked at her learner’s permit test.
There were all kinds of meetings that had to be fitted into a shorter week.
Our first Operation 19:14 planning meeting happened at my house, a catch-up with chaplaincy’s regional service manager happened in a coffee shop, and a chat with the Town Hall management team about foyer decorations for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat happened in the Town Hall foyer.
Limited to four days, I hit the main street to squeeze in banks, birthday presents and bill paying.
Knowing I had one less day to get things done, I responded to emails, invitations and texts at hyper-speed, making all my spelling mistakes and typos very quickly.
I’m unsure how we fitted in photo shoots for musical productions when we were a day down, but we did.
Naturally, clothes were washed, meals prepared and ongoing counselling sessions with all offspring were ongoing, short week or not.
I engaged with Katianna about her essay on the start of World War II, her imperfect tenses in Spanish and progress with her grade 6 piano pieces.
My brain hurt helping Tiani with her homework turning fractions into decimals and my heart hurt trying to figure out why Yasinta wasn’t doing any homework.
The chooks could tell I was short of a day and rubbed it in by flying the coop to scratch all the bark out of the garden beds.
Thank goodness we are back on track today, with a lovely full week ahead of us – all days present and accounted for.
As long as nobody mentions the upcoming Easter long weekend, everything is going to be OK.
