The grand final-bound side defeated Haven nine sets and 105 games to five sets and 87 games. 

Lachlan King and Ben Argent won the opening set 9-6 against Tom Bourchier and Lachlan Punchard. 

Haven proceeded to win two sets from three rubbers, but still trailed by games. 

Drung South managed to win three sets in a row from the fifth rubber to the seventh rubber, Drung South captain Ben Brooksby said this helped his team feel comfortable in the preliminary final on the Haven courts.

Brooksby said he felt his squad was in the drivers seat for a majority of the day. 

The Drung South men won all of their sets to take out a reasonably comfortable victory. 

Brooksby said the number one women singles set was a great match to watch. 

“Kate-Lyn (Perkin) played Sophie (De Wit) where (Kate-Lyn) won 9-6,” he said. 

“That was a good match to watch.

“The last set of the day was Georgia (McLennan) and Romi (Miller), the whole team got around that set – even though we had won the day – it was an awesome match. They ended up winning in a tie break.” 

McLennan and Miller took on Skye Davis and Genevieve Bush in the final set of the day. 

Brooksby said he knew his team would come away with the victory when himself and King defeated Bourchier and Timothy Officer 9-3 on the ninth rubber. 

“I was pretty confident if we won one set (after his match on the ninth rubber) we would have been safe,” he said. 

“We were sitting in front for most of the day, we were 6-4 at one stage and I knew they were right behind us, so I knew we had to deliver on the last few sets to make the day. 

“It was anyone’s day though because anyone can come out and win the last four, that can happen.” 

Brooksby said his p[layers adapted to the conditions well. 

“The weather was perfect, it was actually a really good day. It was a little bit windy at stages but it wasn’t as windy as I expected,” he said. 

“It was meant to get to 34 degrees but it didn’t get there and it was actually comfortable to play in.” 

Brooksby said even though McLennan lost her singles set against Davis, she was a good player to watch. 

“They were having great hits, Davis’ consistency overtook (McLennan) but she was hitting them around and enjoying the day,” he said. 

“I think she was a standout performer. Our men’s carry each other.”
