Chasing 143 to win, Jeffcott’s run chase was off to a nervy start against its town rivals on Sunday afternoon, losing opening batter Daniel Atkins early.
Captain Lachlan Jones joined Brody Haddow in the middle, with the two putting on a resolute 89-run partnership. The two batted well together, and found the boundaries regularly to help build Jeffcott’s innings.
Haddow made 59 before being dismissed straight after the tea break, falling LBW to Nathaniel Holmes-Brown.
Jones showed why he finished the season as the league’s top run scorer, and was patient throughout his innings of 44 not-out. A quick-fire 20 from Luke Sarre after tea helped Jeffcott reach the total with ease.
Jones said the win was a reward for all those involved with the club.
“What this group has been able to achieve in 12 months has been great,” he said.
“These blokes wanted to learn and we had a fair bit of talent there, but who would have thought we would achieve this? It means a lot to us but also to all of the supporters.”
Donald was left to rue some dropped catches on Sunday, which proved costly.
Donald batted on the opening day’s play on Saturday, making a relatively competitive total of 142.
Donald captain Dion Hawkes said he was pleased with his side’s batting performance.
“We had struggled to make 150 runs during the season, so it’s good to do it in a final,” he said.
Ross Funcke top-scored for Donald, falling just short of a half-century, making 48 runs.
Jake Leith, 18, Dylan Ruurds, 13, Hakwes, 13 and Keelan Westerland, 12, all chipped in with some handy runs to help give Donald a solid total.
Jones bowled a tight line for Jeffcott, taking 2-17 from 15 overs. He bowled eight maidens in a solid bowling display.
Daniel Pearce, 2-41 and Oscar Hier, 2-17, also took two wickets each for Jeffcott in a disciplined bowling performance.
