Waratah finished the season in fifth place in the NTFL’s second-tier division, and defeated the minor premiers in Banks to claim the title. 

Warartah led the game at every break, winning 76-37.

Miller said it was a great game to have played in and the team performed well.

“It was a pretty tight first half but once we opened up the game and the rain starting coming down in the second half we had a good enough lead to beat the minor premiers,” he said.

“They were a pretty classy unit and had a few SANFL players in their side. I’m not a really speedy footballer but the more tackles I made the more I added to the team.

“I think I held my own. I got on the end of a lose one as well and scored a pretty cheap goal.”

Although the team finished the regular season well below Banks, Miller said the side never doubted it could upset the ladder leaders to win the flag.

“Our coach has won 12 premierships, so he knew what to do and knew how to get his troops prepared for the game,” he said.

“We knew it was in our destiny to win it, so it was a good reward.”

Miller never thought he would come away with a premiership after he started travelling to and from the Northern Territory late last year.

“I started travelling just for the experience but once we started winning my competitive streak kicked in,” he said.

“A few of the Dimboola boys that will be travelling down this season were in my team. I’ve got good connections now and made some good relationships up there.”

Miller said the experience has put him in good shape for the upcoming Horsham District Football Netball League season.

“I think I’m the fittest I’ve ever been coming into a season, so hopefully I’m in a good position for the year,” he said.
