One of those from Darwin is senior coach Jack Musgrove, who is in his second year at the club.
He said moving the ball quicker had been a big focus point for the side.
“We want to improve our transition of the ball and move it a lot more quickly this year,” he said.
“We don’t want to get caught around centre half-back and centre half-forward, we want to move it quicker in those areas.
“The Darwin boys are going to bring a lot of speed to the team. They are all young and I think their outside ball play will be exciting.”
Aiding the team will be the fact the Darwin recruits will be based in Victoria for the entire season, meaning they can train with the team every week.
“The team is starting to click a lot. We have quite a few new faces around the club and with some juniors stepping up it gives us a good chance this year,” Musgrove said.
“Some of the blokes we have brought it have been fantastic leaders, Elliot Kelly and Matt Tyler have been great leaders on the ground. Jordan May and Jack May as assistant coach have been looking to be good leaders too.”
Musgrove said he had enjoyed adapting to football in the Wimmera, and was excited for a finals tilt in 2018.
“It’s a lot colder but it’s been great. It’s a different style of play and it suits me better. It’s not as quick as in Darwin. It’s a lot tougher around the contest too,” he said.
Rupanyup starts its season away to Edenhope-Apsley on April 7.
Q & A with Jack Musgrove
What is the aim for the club this season?
Finals is a massive aim for us and the club hasn’t been in finals for a long time, so that’s what we want to try and do. We also want to develop our junior base, which has been promising.
How has pre-season form been?
Form has been good and we had a solid hit-out against St Arnaud. We have had most of the blokes on the track.
What has you most excited for the season?
I’m excited to get a few wins and see how we will go together. I’m excited to see what we can achieve, and I think we have a lot of potential.
