The girls team was set to compete in the Deakin University Female Football League, alongside fellow Wimmera sides Horsham Saints, Horsham Demons and Stawell Warriors.
Club president Rosemary Langley said it was disappointing to be unable to compete in the competition.
“We had a lack of numbers in the end. When the first expressions of interest went out we had lots of numbers,” she said.
“Some girls have ended up going away for school and we had a few injuries. We were right on the borderline with numbers.
“They are all very young and we have a group of girls who might train with the under-14 boys if they are interested.”
Ms Langley said there was still interest among the girls to form a team in the near future.
“I’m not sure if it will be in this competition or in a younger age competition, which would probably suit our demographic a bit more, but we would like to enter a team,” she said.
“A lot of our students have to go away for boarding school, so we lose that older age group. I think we will look at it at the end of each season.
“They were a bit disappointed, but there was going to be a lot of travelling, and some hadn’t counted on that.
“They are still keen and we will keep working on it.”
Ms Langley thanked the league for accepting the club in the first place.
“We want to thank the organising committee for accepting us and we are very disappointed we are not able to get the numbers this season,” she said.
“We are going to spread our net a bit wider and communicate more to see if we can get some more outlying players for next year.”
