The state government has Graffiti Prevention Grants up to $30,000 available to help councils work with community groups to combat crime hot-spots.

Yarriambiack Shire Council was among the successful applicants in the 2017 grants round.

Horsham Community and Police Consultative Committee is among the community groups in the region that looks at ways to address the issue, and Horsham Rural City Council is considering a policy for dealing with graffiti on private property.

Member for Western Victoria Jaala Pulford said the grants program encouraged councils, community groups, police, schools and businesses to collaborate on anti-graffiti projects.

She said among the possible projects were environmental design initiatives to improve natural surveillance; anti-graffiti coatings on buildings and other surfaces; and initiatives to cover vulnerable areas with gardens or public art.

Grant applications close on April 20.
