The sides were hard to spilt all day, with the scores even after the first quarter and the Saints up 16-13 at the half. In the end, the Saints came away with a 32-29 win.
Edenhope-Apsley coach Monica van Dyk said the two sides were well matched throughout the entire clash.
“It was a close game, and the whole way through we were pretty much even or they were a goal or two ahead of us every now and again,” she said.
“We fought really hard. One thing that let us down a little bit was some lapses in intensity and concentration, maybe due to tiredness and fatigue, but whenever that happened we picked ourselves up and fought back.”
In a relatively low scoring contest, van Dyk said her side’s defensive end performed well.
“I think defensively we were really strong,” she said.
“The week before we had an issue where we weren’t putting pressure on all the way down the court. We worked on that and our defensive end put a lot of pressure on their attackers on Saturday.”
With two wins to start the season, van Dyk said her side was starting to come together well, but still had plenty of things to work on.
“We are only two games in and we are still finding our feet,” she said.
“In the attacking end the girls are still getting to know each other. We play Natimuk United this weekend, which will be a good test. We will see how we go and I’m sure it will give us some things to work on.”
Elsewhere, the Swifts started its season in dramatic fashion with a big win against Pimpinio.
Coming in fresh with a bye last week in round one, a strong all-round performance handed the Swifts a 57-35 win against the Tigers.
Meanwhile, Reigning premiers Natimuk United continued its great form, defeating Rupanyup 69-25, while Harrow-Balmoral also remains undefeated two rounds in, accounting for Taylors Lake 55-27.
Noradjuha-Quantong earned its first win of the A Grade season, bouncing back from a disappointing loss to the Ewes last week to defeat Jeparit-Rainbow 46-23.
