The side had been playing in a standard Richmond Tigers jumper, but now has its Whippets logo in the middle.
Wimmera Regional Sports Assembly access all abilities manager Nic Baird said the jumper strengthened the side’s identity.
“This has been in the works for 18 months and the players are so excited – I told them to get come to training early on Wednesday night so it was all a bit of a surprise for them,” he said.
“It gives us our brand now. We have the symbolism of who and what we are, instead of just the straight Richmond jumper.
“They all love coming to training on a Wednesday night and playing games. Football and netball are sports where they can get out there and just be equal on the playing field.”
Baird said the new jumpers were a long time coming.
“The jumpers were four seasons old and we were originally planning to get the new ones for the start of this season but we had some hold ups,” he said.
“Thanks to a couple of local businesses we were able to work together to get the new jumpers.”
The Wimmera Whippets will run out with their new look for the first time in round four of the Victorian FIDA Football League Western Conference on July 15 against South Warrnambool.
