Horsham’s Tom Berry was the only Greater Western Victoria Rebel to be invited to the national combine taking place in Melbourne. The national combine started yesterday and will run until Friday. Horsham’s Matt Lloyd and Warrack Eagles’ Charlie Wilson will both test at the state combine on Friday.
AFLW hopeful Rene Caris has also tested at the combine on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Rebels talent manager Phil Partington said it was an exciting week.
“They will undergo some player interviews with AFL clubs,” he said. “They have all done a lot of work since the season ended with their conditioning. They are always a bit nervous.”
Berry’s season was cut short in July with a wrist injury and he also has a knee concern.
“Tom has been an under an injury cloud this year so we will see how he goes with a medical before deciding if he tests or not,” Partington said. “He has had a bit of a knee joint problem and we have been monitoring that. If he isn’t 100 per cent he won’t be testing.
“They are getting exposed and have a chance in front of the AFL clubs. There are only 85 players at the national combine.”
Partington said Caris was also testing well.
“Rene Caris is testing well at the moment,” he said.
“The girls have a bit of a shortened program but it is very similar to some of the activities the boys do.”
