Representatives of the key users of the proposed sports stadium and Horsham Rural City Council met earlier this month to talk about the project plans and future opportunities for a regional sports facility in the city.
Horsham Rural City Council mayor Mark Radford said the project has been on hold to await an outcome of the central business district and river precinct vision project.
Cr Radford said the outcome will inform further planning of the proposed multi-purpose indoor sports stadium.
"The river precinct vision strategy works are underway. The preferred site of the multi-propose indoor sports stadium is located on the showground precinct," he said.
"It is important we look at the stadium's location and how it could fed into the river strategy, which will be happening in the upcoming months."
In the meantime, Cr Radford said the council has organised a workshop with the key user groups - volleyball, basketball, netball, table tennis and squash.
"The message is that the meeting finished on a good note," he said.
"There are things the groups disagree with, but it was an opportunity to talk it through and see what could be done better and where this project could go in the future."
