The club announced the decision in August, with Hargreaves confirming it was an easy choice to stay.
"There's a couple of reasons of why I have decided to commit to the club and coach again," he said.
"I think it can take a couple of years to implement your game plan and ideas so I want that extra time.
"Plus I am excited by what I see in the group and the future success we can have.
"I want these young players to taste success and that is a real lure.

Hargreaves took on the coaching role with the Swifts in 2020, taking over from club stalwart Scott Carey.
It has been a tricky two years at the helm for Hargreaves, with no football played in 2020 and the 2021 HDFNL season proving to be a stop-start challenge, thanks to several COVID-19 lockdowns.
Despite the different set of circumstances, Hargreaves said he had learnt plenty from his first year in charge with games played.
"I have learnt a heap from this year," he said.
"Actually having a season as opposed to just training, I was able to learn a lot about the week-to-week stuff.
"Studying up opposition, oval conditions, who plays well where; they were all things I needed to look at.
OTHER NEWS:
"I have also learnt a heap from Ben Martin. He is a very experienced coach, which is why I got him onboard.
"Being a first-time senior coach I wanted him there to pass on his wisdom, which he has done beautifully."
The Swifts missed the finals in 2021, finishing seventh on the ladder with six wins, six losses and a percentage of 142.94.
With the young age bracket of the group, expectations will be higher in 2022, with Hargreaves alluding to some changes.
"We have some recruiting to do and we will be trying to bolster our depth and we are also excited to see the development of our players," he said.
"But the structure around the team will look a bit different next season.
"And that's the reason I really want to do it, because I think next year can be a really good year for us."
