Brenton turned 13 yesterday and said he 'felt great' to have reached the milestone.
"I have been waiting all these years to be 13," he said.
"Having my birthday on New Year's Day, everyone knows it's my birthday, so they say happy birthday and happy new year."
Brenton will enter year eight at Horsham College this year.
He celebrated his birthday at home with a small family gathering on New Year's Eve.
Brenton also played mini golf with family and friends yesterday at Halls Gap.
He received money for his birthday and plans to save it to buy computer games.
Brenton is not the only one in his family to share his birthday with a significant annual event.
His father, Mark Hallam, celebrates his birthday on Christmas Day.
Brenton's late maternal grandfather, Les Keyte, also marked his birthday on Christmas Day.
