More than a 'momentary indiscretion'?

In the saga that is proving to have more plot twists than a goth romance epic, what was claimed to be a "momentary indiscretion" may have been something rather more serious.

The secret affair between Kristen Stewart, 22, and Rupert Sanders, 41, which came to light just days ago, is said to have been going on for months.

The brother of Liberty Ross, Sanders' wife of 10 years, has spoken out about his sister's crumbling marriage to the Snow White and the Huntsman director, adding his insight to the plethora of rumours circulating over the incendiary news.

Musician Leopold Ross, based in LA, has told People magazine that the Snow White star's relationship with his brother-in-law "was from the last half of filming and all through post-production, clear into last week.”

He said that his actor and model sister, 33, had made sacrifices to move to California for her husband's career but that some good may come of the split.

"Doubt it was worth [moving to LA] but it’s life. It might actually make things better in the long run. She wasn’t that happy for a while, but our family is close, she’ll be all right."

Ross played Stewart's mother in the Snow White remake.

In the meantime, Sanders' father, Michael, has added his two-pence, branding the saga a "storm in a tea cup."

"He’s a very honest person and a devoted father," he said of his son. "It was just a welcome kiss ... It was just a fling. There was no affair."

In yet another development, Aussie actress Emilie de Ravin, 30, has been brought into the picture after it emerged that the Lost star's friendship with Pattinson may have inspired Stewart to pursue Sanders.

Pattinson and de Ravin worked together in 2009 on Remember Me and struck up a bond that saw them spend many evenings in one another's company in New York.

A source close to Stewart told People: "As their friendship grew, she became more envious to the point that she would be very upset. They struck up their friendship when they were working away in New York and Kristen was still living in Los Angeles.

"Nothing romantic ever happened between them but it didn’t make Kristen feel any better about them being so close. Emilie was at a very low ebb. She was going through a split and she and Robert made one another laugh."

The publication of photographs of Stewart and Sanders kissing has led to Robert Pattinson moving out of the $6million Los Angeles home he shared with Stewart, his Twlight co-star and girlfriend of three years.

Keen to make amends, Stewart swiftly made a public apology, telling People magazine: "I'm deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I've caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected.

"This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I'm so sorry."

Sanders issued an apology of his own, telling Reuters that he is "utterly distraught about the pain" he has caused his family.

"My beautiful wife and heavenly children are all I have in this world. I love them with all my heart. I am praying that we can get through this together."
