The inaugural Run for Russ event is fast approaching, being run this Sunday, August 5 in Stawell.
People from all over the region, plus from Melbourne, have entered the run/walk fundraiser, including teams of four vying for the fastest time prize.
Proceeds from entries and sponsorship will go towards producing heart health awareness kits for households in the Wimmera Grampians.
Event organiser Jackie Healy said she was overwhelmed with the number of registrations.
"The word is really out there and we expect a fantastic turn up at Cato Lake in Stawell where the circuits will start and finish," Ms Healy said.
"We encourage family and friends who aren't taking part to still come along and cheer on their heart health champions. And the colour to wear on the day is red!"
Ms Healy said people could still register online or register on the day. Entry is $25 for adults, $6 for children and $45 for families and $15 for a t-shirt.
"It's been so good to hear that people have been upping their daily exercise to train for the run or walk," she said.
"That's what Run for Russ is all about; encouraging people to get health checks and get moving!"
The Wimmera Grampians Heart Challenge - Run for Russ is being held in honour of Ms Healy's father who died from an unexpected heart attack aged 46.
A barbecue, soup and other refreshments will be available at Cato Lake during the event.
