Program co-ordinator Kerrie Nolan said an old canteen had been refurbished to provide students with a comfortable space in which to spend time with their mentors.
"Before this they often had to meet up at the back of the music room or wherever they could," she said.
"The old canteen was dilapidated and just being used for storage.
"Now, this place has given the project a special place in the school, a real pride of place.
"It adds to the relationship between the mentors and the students and gives them a good place to develop that relationship."
Ms Nolan said Horsham's Harvest Christian Church funded the refurbishment.
The new mentoring space was officially opened on Wednesday.
Students, teachers, mentors and members of Wimmera Southern Mallee Local Learning and Employment Network which created the program attended.
Children of all ages participate in the program for many different reasons, and are paired with community members.
Mentor Suzanne Bysouth has been meeting with grade six student Destany Dickerson-Cornell for more than a year.
They spend an hour a fortnight together doing a range of activities, from chatting to cooking to arts and crafts.
"It's not a lot of time to spend and it's very flexible," Ms Bysouth said.
"It's something valuable I can do, and I can hopefully be a positive influence.
"I would definitely recommend the program."
LLEN partnership broker Sallie Millington said the room would be of great benefit to participants.
She said more than 200 mentor matches had been made through the 13 programs run in the region since 2010.
"If I had my way every child would have a mentor. I think it's a fantastic program," she said.
She said additional mentors were always required and people could visit www.llen.vic.gov.au for more information about the program.
