A fire started at a lone power pole in the middle of a stubble paddock beside Remlaw Road.
Fuelled by strong winds and a record 45.7-degree heatwave, the fire skirted Horsham and raced into Haven, razing 10 homes in its path.
Many others were saved through courageous battles and the efforts of fire-fighters.
Thankfully, no lives were lost.
A wind change drove the fire across the Western Highway before it was stopped at the Horsham-Lubeck Road.
Today, we reflect on that day with a series of photographs from the Mail-Times archives.
