HORSHAM District Football Netball League dominated Heathcote in its 15 and under interleague showdown at Horsham City Oval on Saturday.
From the start of the game it was clear Horsham had come to play.
Horsham’s 13-goal opening quarter set the tone, with the home side’s defence holding Heathcote to just four goals.
Horsham was only just getting started.
Heathcote gave a good account of itself and fought back in the second quarter, winning the term by a goal.
Visiting goalies Mardi Ryan, 13 goals, and Tahli Brereton, four, teamed up to score nine goals in the term. After the main break, it was all Horsham.
Sacha McDonald helped the green and gold pile on 19 goals to one in the third term, but it was far from a virtuoso performance.
Noradjuha-Quantong’s Maddi Focroul was named best on court playing in defence and through the middle.
There were very few weak links in the team, which scored a further 23 goals in the last quarter for a 63-17 final scoreline.
Horsham coach Cath McDonald praised her team’s relentless pressure.
“Scores were reasonably close in the first quarter, but the girls stormed ahead in the next three quarters,” she said.
“Great defensive work by Maddi Focroul and Tara Jasper provided the goalies with many opportunities, which ensured a big score from Sacha, Molly Mitchell and Laetitia Lees.”
The team travelled to Bendigo on Sunday for the Golden City Netball Tournament, making it to the semi-final before being eliminated.
During the tournament they beat the overall winner in opening rounds.
