Police have called for information after the alleged attack.
Sergeant Jason Bergen said a woman was walking with shopping bags across the park about 7.15pm when she was approached by a Caucasian woman believed to be in her mid-20s.
"The unknown female stood directly in front of her as she was crossing the park," he said.
"The woman then began to abuse her, using obscene language and expletives towards the victim."
Sgt Bergen said the woman pushed and shoved the victim, before producing a knife.
"She made an unsuccessful attempt to grab the shopping bags before running off towards the toilet block in May Park," he said.
He said incidents of this nature were uncommon in Horsham.
Sgt Bergen urged anyone with information about the incident to call Horsham Police on 5382 9200 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
