Branch vice-president Inspector Trevor Ashton said ticket sales were insufficient for the event to go ahead on August 16 as planned.
“We are going to postpone to a date to be advised,” he said.
Although disappointed by the lack of support, Mr Ashton said organisers planned to re-schedule the event to a more suitable time.
He said the timing of this year’s ball might have been poor for Wimmera people involved in organised activities such as football and netball.
Last year’s ball was in late November.
Mr Ashton said the absence of Victoria Police’s show band might also have contributed to low ticket sales.
The show band entertained people at last year’s event in one of its final performances before being disbanded to make way for more frontline police.
Wimmera band Cover 2 Cover was due to perform this year.
The glamour balls raise money for Wimmera Base Hospital’s emergency department.
The hospital has bought portable vital signs monitors and trolleys with money raised in previous years.
Money raised at this year’s ball was going towards another monitor and trolley unit.
