‘Spirits of the Past: The Wimmera at War’ is an exhibition of military history with a focus on those who served from the region.
The display will be open in the week leading up to Anzac Day.
RSL committee member Lance Clayton said more than six months of research went into the display, which features hundreds of profiles and anecdotes of diggers and nurses.
Mr Clayton said the goal was to engage the community in the stories of those who took part in the war.
‘‘We want everybody to have the respect and thanks for the people who laid down their lives,’’ he said.
‘‘We want the spirit of the Anzacs to live on.’’
Mr Clayton said school groups would visit the display throughout the week.
He said there would be folders with information on each person’s enlistment and achievements including specific folders for diggers, nurses, young soldiers and indigenous people.
Special displays depict the stories of notable First World War figures such as sniper Billy Sing and stretcher bearer John Simpson, known for relaying wounded diggers on a donkey.
Mr Clayton said a computer database where people could look up information would also be part of the display.
He said if people were looking for information on a certain person not included in the display, the committee would try to identify them.
The exhibition will open in the conference and billiard rooms at Horsham RSL on April 19 at 2pm.
It will be open every day until April 25.
Mr Clayton said people could call Horsham RSL on 5382 5222 for more information.
