Rathgeber is performing his ideal role on stage and is about to release his debut album.
Anything Goes opened at the Princess Theatre in Melbourne on Sunday.
Rathgeber, who plays New York stockbroker Billy Crocker in the show, said it was a phenomenal opening night.
"It was the night of my life," he said.
"The audience response was quite overwhelming and the buzz among the cast was nothing like I've ever felt on stage. It was infectious and really exhilarating."
Rathgeber said Anything Goes was the largest-scale touring production he had been in in Australia.
"It's a dream of a show to be a part of, and the role of a lifetime for me," he said.
Rathgeber has been in a number of shows including staring as Raoul in the famous West End production of Phantom of the Opera in London, as well as playing major roles in The Drowsy Chaperone, The Rocky Horror Show, The Boy From Oz and An Officer and A Gentleman.
He said the Anything Goes cast, which included Caroline O'Connor, Todd McKenney, Wayne Scott Kermond, Claire Lyon, Carmen Duncan, Alan Jones and Debora Kirzak, was full of comedic geniuses.
"To work with such a stellar line-up is just a huge honour and it's the most exciting cast I've been part of," he said.
This week will get even bigger for Rathgeber when his album Easy To Love is released today(5th).
He said putting out an album was another dream realised.
"Since I started singing, I started listening to Broadway cast recordings and singing along and hearing other people's solo albums. I've always imagined doing it," he said.
"It's a collection of Broadway hits. Some of them I've sung in professional productions and the other half are favourites of mine in dream roles I'd love to play."
Songs on the album include I Honestly Love You from The Boy From Oz, Anything You Can Do from Annie Get Your Gun and the title track Easy To Love from Anything Goes.
Rathgeber recorded the album in Melbourne. Renowned base player James Kempster produced the record.
"He's the base player on most of the big musical shows which come through Melbourne," Rathgeber said.
"He's a great producer to work with."
Anything Goes is at the Princess Theatre in Melbourne until July 19.
It will move to Brisbane and Sydney later this year.
Rathgeber said Easy To Love would be available at the Princess Theatre during the show's run and on iTunes.
