Ararat Senior Sergeant Rob Weppner said a new alcohol service policy at the Mininera and District Football League grand final helped with crowd behaviour at Willaura on Saturday.

Organisers also employed security officers to check cars for alcohol.

Sen Sgt Weppner said in the past people had tried to bring alcohol into the football grounds.

"The crowd was well-behaved," he said.

"It was a large crowd and there were no incidents."

A new alcohol service policy at the grounds meant the bar opened at midday, but heavy strength beer was not served until 2.30pm when the main game began.

Sen Sgt Weppner said the new policy helped with crowd behaviour.

"This was the first year they had trialled this for the league," he said.

"The new initiative definitely worked."

Police detected one drink-driver, a man from the Willaura area, after the grand final.

Sen Sgt Weppner said the man's blood-alcohol reading was not high.

Horsham Sergeant Dale McIvor congratulated spectators for their behaviour at the Horsham District Football League grand final in Horsham on Saturday.

"We were very impressed and did not have any issues," he said.

"Overall, it was very well handled."

Police arrested three men for alcohol-related offences in the Horsham central business district on Saturday night.

The men were locked up overnight for drunkenness and-or offensive behaviour.

Sgt McIvor said police would continue their zero tolerance approach for people who misbehaved after the Wimmera Football League grand final at Stawell on Saturday.

"We want to remind people that this weekend they should expect no different," he said.

"Crowds need to be wary of an increased police presence.

"We want people to enjoy themselves and behave responsibly.

"And if people are drinking, they should make arrangements for someone to drive them home."

Sgt McIvor said now was a good time to remind people of the penalties.

Offences including public drunkenness, disorderly conduct and offensive behaviour attract a $563 fine.

Fines for alcohol-related offences start at $282.

Nhill Senior Constable Karyleen Hateley said the crowd was well behaved at the Mallee Football League grand final at Rainbow on Saturday.

"There was a big line of traffic heading out of town," she said.

"We did some preliminary breath tests and everyone behaved."

Donald Leading Senior Constable Rod McLachlan reported no incidents from the North Central Football League preliminary finals at Donald on Saturday.
