It was a stunning result for the the Blue Panthers after the side only just scraped into finals.

Two wins to end the regular season saw the side pip Jung for a finals spot.

But there were more upsets to come as first Homers, then Horsham Saints, fell victim to the competition dark horses.

Rup-Minyip skipper Travis Hair said chasing the Saints’ 190-run target was always going to be difficult.

“We lost a couple of quick wickets so it was good to get across the line,” he said.

“Any time you are chasing 190, it is a good tally and they were bowling well.”

More than 150 people attended the two days of play at Horsham City Oval to watch the contest between the A Grade powerhouses.

Like it was in the semi finals, scoring proved difficult on a wicket that had provided plenty of runs earlier in the season.

Saints managed a reasonable total of 190, but with 100 overs bowled on each day, another 30 runs would have been a far tougher proposition.

It took the Blue Panthers until the 86^th over to reach the target, for the loss of seven wickets.

Hair said the wicket had kept the ball coming through low at the batsmen, which had made scoring difficult.

“It was one of those wickets where you had to get in and be positive with your batting,” he said.

“Matt Combe did it really well for (Saints) on day one and I was lucky enough to get a few today.”

In other grand finals at the weekend, Blackheath-Dimboola capped off a dominant B Grade season to defeat Jung Tigers at Cornell Park.

The side was well led by captain Lachie Watts all season and he once again performed with the bat to finish with 81 runs in the decider.

Fortunately for the Tigers, they had better luck on Saturday when their C Grade team defeated Laharum.

In the Wimmera Mallee association competition, Brim-Kellalac-Sheep Hills defeated Donald to win the A Grade title.
