Horsham images to assist community plan

HORSHAM residents have a chance to share what they love about their city through a new photography competition.

The 'Your Horsham Your Say' competition is part of a Horsham Community Plan which will involve identifying the physical, natural, economic and social assets of the city.

The process will then lead to developing a community vision and identifying priority projects.

Horsham Rural City Council community facilitator Martin Bride said similar plans had been developed for Natimuk, Wartook and Laharum, Jung and Dadswells Bridge.

He said plans were developed by the community, for the community.

"Other municipalities have done these things in cities but this will be the first time we have tried it in a large place," he said.

"Council's role is to facilitate the process.

"The photo competition invites people to share what's good about Horsham and that will be the starting point for developing this plan.

"The process will come to a head in February when there will be a series of workshops to refine the actions the community would like to take and make priorities."

Mr Bride said the process had been successful in small towns.

"In Natimuk for example, the community wanted a place to have meetings and have a focus in the centre of town. This led to the NC2 project," he said.

"Council assisted through helping with the funding applications but the project was driven by the community."

Mr Bride said the photo competition had four categories: junior, intermediate, open and iPhone photo.

He said the competition was not necessarily about the best scenic photos but the ones that best represented Horsham as a great place to live.

He said online entries could be emailed to martin.bride@hrcc.vic.gov.au from Monday and the deadline for submissions was 4pm on November 23.

He said some of the photos would be used in the community workshops.

Mr Bride said more information about the competition was available at www.hrcc.vic.gov.au.
