Dimboola Memorial Secondary College year 10 student Rebekah Albrecht was chosen for a study tour as part of the Premier’s Spirit of Anzac Prize.
Rebekah said she was excited for the tour.
“I wanted to do it because I thought it would be a really good way to get a better understanding about our school and our community’s history, because we are a memorial school,” she said.
To apply for the tour, Rebekah had to write an essay about the effects of war on wives, children and community.
“I was then one of 52 students chosen for an interview and from there I was one of 22 students selected for the tour,” she said.
“I was so excited, I couldn’t believe I was chosen.”
The tour will follow in the footsteps of Second World War veterans and students will visit places of national significance in Darwin and Singapore to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Darwin bombing and the fall of Singapore.
The trip goes for 10 days.
Rebekah said she was looking forward to it.
“The process of applying for the trip has already helped me understand so much about our country’s history,” she said.
“I’m looking forward to furthering that knowledge.”
