Mr Dalgleish said that not only has it been 30 years of service to Catholic education, but it has also been 30 years of work at Horsham’s St Brigid’s College. 

Waking up and not wanting to go to school has never crossed Mr Dalgleish’s mind during his time at the college. 

“I think that it is great that I am happy to come to work on a daily basis and watch the kids achieve and grow,” he said. 

Building relationships with students that are not restricted to school hours has been important to Mr Dalgleish. 

“I have been invited to my student’s 21^st birthdays and to MC at their weddings,” he said. 

“It’s these sorts of things that are fantastic because I know that I have made a connection and it is not just a 9am to 3.30pm relationship for six years,” he said.

Mr Dalgleish said it was the continuation of knowing families throughout his years of teaching that was one of the favourite parts of his job. 

“The students I taught earlier on have sent now their kids to St Brigid’s College and I have taught their children as well,” he said.   

Mr Dalgleish’s favourite aspect of teaching is the students and relationships he has built throughout the years.

Mr Dalgleish originally had aspirations to study medicine at university, but he fell short in marks.

He decided to follow a science career path with hopes of transferring afterwards, but teaching beckoned. 

“I have always had a great love of children and helping others,” he said.  

Mr Dalgleish has been involved with the Horsham sporting community, coaching a lot of junior sports and umpiring football. 

“I have always had that connection there to help people achieve,” he said.. 

Originally from Adelaide, Mr Dalgleish came to Horsham with the plan to reassess after two years, however, he has been here ever since.  

“There’s been opportunities to move back to South Australia, but as a family we are happy here,” he said.

“We just need more Port Adelaide supporters around here.” 

Mr Dalgleish was recognised for his 30 years of service to Catholic education and to Horsham’s St Brigid’s College on May 19 in Ballarat. 

He was presented with a certificate from Bishop Paul Bird. 

Catholic Education Week was a time to celebrate and thank members in their community who had contributed to the success of Catholic schools.
