Mitchell Thomas, 44, appeared in Horsham Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday after he broke into a number of premises at the weekend.

Thomas has no fixed address and Magistrate Mark Stratmann denied his bail.

Police arrested Thomas on Sunday at Halls Gap after he had allegedly broken into Halls Gap Gardens Caravan Park and damage a number of cabins. 

The court heard that Thomas’ crime spree started on Saturday when he allegedly smashed a window of the Stawell Lions Club caravan, that was stationed along the Western Highway as part of the club’s Driver Reviver operation. 

He told police he was looking for somewhere to sleep.

Thomas was arrested and bailed.

Between Saturday night and Sunday morning, Thomas allegedly smashed the door of The Court House Hotel in Ararat.

The court heard Thomas allegedly entered the hotel, drank a number of alcoholic beverages before falling asleep.

On Sunday, Thomas allegedly broke into two cabins at the Halls Gap Gardens Caravan Park.

In one cabin he allegedly slept in all three beds and ate some food before falling asleep in another cabin.

Mr Stratmann said remanded Thomas to appear in court on Friday.

He said he couldn’t grant Thomas bail because he had no support network. 

Thomas told the court he was passing through the region on his way to Adelaide.
