Senior Constable Kellie Harris said three men were walking in the Grampians on Saturday afternoon when they got off the beaten track.
“It got dark and they found themselves at a car park at the top of the Grampians – a long way from their car at Halls Gap,” she said.
“There wasn’t a search operation or anything, but police had to attend and give them a lift back to town.”
Senior Constable Harris said it was a reminder to people to take into consideration the lack of daylight hours at the moment.
“It gets dark a lot quicker now,” she said.
“People should also make sure they take warm clothing, especially if they go out in the afternoon.”
