Mrs Yeo said the years had flown.
“We take every day as it comes. We raised our kids and did what we had to do,” she said.
During the first 15 years of their marriage, Mr and Mrs Yeo were apart due to his career in the army.
“It was a learning curve when he left the army because we had never spent 24 hours together,” Mrs Yeo said.
“Communication was key.
“We work together through disagreements.”
Mr and Mrs Yeo were married in 1957.
“Ron had just returned from Japan when a friend introduced us. We clicked from the beginning and were married one year later,” she said.
Mr Yeo said he had never forgotten their anniversary.
“It is the day after my birthday so it is hard to forget,” he said.
Mr and Mrs Yeo have three children and were pleased to have grandchildren.
“After 60 years of marriage, we’ve learnt the importance of family,” she said.
Mr Yeo said after 25 years of service in the army they decided to settle in Horsham.
“Our children had reached their later years of school and were moving into the HSC,” he said.
“Rather than move everyone again, I wanted to give them a chance to finish school in Horsham.”
Daughter Darlene Yeo said the family celebrated the special milestone with a dinner at Horsham RSL.
“It was the first time in six years our whole family has been together,” she said.
