The Japanese cultural event raised $450 to help people affected by the nuclear disaster in Fukushima.
Organiser Akina Koh said the money raised was donated to Smile with Kids.
Smile with Kids is an Australian-based non-for-profit organisation that invites children from Fukushima to Cairns to spend time in the radiation-free environment. “There are many different avenues to support the post-recovery disaster in Fukushima,” she said.
“I felt that there is so much power behind supporting an organisation that represents the connection between Japan and Australia.”
Mrs Koh said there was an overwhelming turnout on Saturday.
“We planned for 30 people, but counted more than 100 on the day,” she said.
The event was at the Salvation Army kitchen in Horsham.
People were able to taste traditional Japanese dishes and matcha green tea.
“The president of Oasis Wimmera wants to have a cooking demonstration on how to make the dishes because many people wanted to know how to make them,” she said.
“It is amazing to see people enjoying Japanese cuisine and connecting with the culture.”
There were also craft items for sale, children’s activities and an auction.
Mrs Koh said Oasis Wimmera aimed to host Tastes of the World events every few months.
