Twelve eager young footballers were given a taste of what a day at the college would be like before a pilot program is rolled out later this year.

The day was run by college directors Tiffany Toombs and Luke O'Shannessy.

Toombs said it was a good session with a group of young footballers eager to learn.

“There was two hours of footy with a focus on handballing fundamentals, field kicking and goal kicking,” she said.

“We then did a short strength circuit before finishing with some yoga.

“It was then into the classroom for an hour on mindset, the language we use and goal setting.”

The college has already signed several players onto its Horsham program.

Planning for the Horsham college continues well as interest levels from within the region remain high.

The college is set to be established as alternative option for young people who have finished high school.

“A lot of people still think we are going to be taking students away from the area but its post secondary,” Toombs said. “We’ll take anybody, it’s not that you need to be aiming for the AFL. It’s for anybody that loves footy and wants to continue their education.”

The college has also announced plans to expand into a new netball division at its regional sites from next year.

The program will not aim to compete with existing clubs in the area. Instead it will focus on adding value to the players in the region.
